Executive Chef Jason Kleinfeld, "Keep it simple, fresh and make sure it tastes good!"

For nearly 10 years, Executive Chef Jason Kleinfeld has been fine-tuning the menu of not only one of North America's largest restaurants, but one of Vancouver's finest seafood eateries.

Heeding the calling towards culinary arts, Kleinfeld began his career after an apprenticeship at Vancouver's BCIT and VCC. In 1986, recognizing he needed genuine restaurant experience, Kleinfeld accepted an entry level position at the Boathouse Restaurant in Coal Harbour (where Cardero's Restaurant now stands) Honing his skills and garnering talent, Kleinfeld then moved on to Bridges Restaurant on Granville Island in 1991. It was one year later in 1992 that Jason helped open the new Malone's Restaurant as Kitchen Manager. Following a successful stint at Malone's, the budding Chef moved to Tofino to become Chef du Partie at Weigh West, a position he would hold for three seasons. Once again, chasing his inspiration, he then returned to Vancouver to accept the role of Sous Chef at Cardero's Restaurant under Executive Chef Annabelle Leslie.

In 2000, when the Sequoia Company of Restaurants opened The Sandbar Seafood Restaurant on Granville Island, Jason was a natural choice for Executive Chef. Today, Jason couldn't be happier amidst the bounty of fresh and local offerings available at the Granville Island Market. Indigenous ingredients, coupled with an enormous open kitchen equipped with a wood-burning grill, forno oven and full size wok station together offer its patrons the freshest seafood available. Sumptuous fishes like Sablefish, Ahi Tuna and Spring Salmon are just a few of the items Chef Jason personally prepares on a daily basis.
